Civil Partnership Act 2010

The act has now become law and allows same sex couples to register their Partnership before a Civil Registrar, after giving 3 months notice. Once the Partnership is registered, the couple become Civil Partners and will enjoy broadly the same legal entitlements as married couples, in relation to property ownership, succession, and ultimately taxation (once the Finance Act 2011 is passed). In the event of relationship break down, a dependant civil partner will be able to claim financial support from the other civil partner through the courts.
