Declaration of Parentage

Our client is a father but his name did not appear on the child’s birth certificate.

This has important consequences for tax, social welfare, inheritance and immigration law among others. Without cooperation from all parties, it was necessary to apply to the Circuit Court exhibiting a DNA test result for a declaration of parentage. In another case, our client discovered that he was not in fact the father of a child on whose birth certificate he did appear. In that case we sued the mother of the child and settled the case on the basis that she would sign the necessary forms to amend the birth certificate.
