Irish Grant of Probate with UK domicile

For beneficiaries of wills made by UK residents, getting control of assets held in Ireland as part of the administration of the estate can be difficult. We can assist.

We regularly take instructions from UK based clients in respect of an Irish Grant of Probate to deal with Irish assets left by deceased UK residents, like holiday homes, Euro bank accounts and shares.

These applications can be tricky, not least because resources within the Probate Office do not allow for pre-approval of applications and Covid-19 protocols make individual inquiries more difficult. Nonetheless, we can navigate applications successfully and quickly.

One of the unlikely Brexit benefits for these type of transactions, where the instructing client is in the UK, is that we now do not need to charge Irish VAT (currently 21%) on our professional fee – meaning a substantial saving to the beneficiaries.
